Strengthening of Rail Connectivity to Ports

This included study of earlier studies concerning Port Connectivity, Study of traffic forecast of important commodities moved by Railways that is POL, Iron Ore, Fertilizers and Raw Materials, Containers, Coal, Food Grain and Cars. The present Port Capacities ( Both Major and Minor)  and their future growth was studied including commodities for which different ports are planning to develop capacity. Modal mix of inward and outward traffic to ports was studied.  Alternatives available for increasing line capacity of Railway Routes were analysed. Cost estimates were prepared for implementing various methods of increasing line capacity. Based on the future traffic on port connectivity lines and cost of increasing line capacity also taking into account alternative modes of handling future growth of traffic action plan was developed for improvement measures needed to handle future traffic.
